Character | Stereotype | image |
Homer Simpson |
The main character is an overweight, bald, beer-guzzling, white male who,
among many negative stereotypes, is shown as extremely incompetent. At the intro
of every episode, he is shown handling and discarding hazardous, nuclear material irresponsibly.
|
|
The Flanders |
Ned Flanders, the Simpsons' neighbor, also a white male, is depicted as
extremely religious and sickeningly bubbly.
Ned's wife, Maude, is depicted as an holier-than-thou busy-body |
|
Their children are portrayed as overly-indoctrinated
These portrayals just drip with anti-Christian bigotry. |
|
| |
Montgomery Burns |
is constantly demonized as a self-centered, old, frail, capitalist, white male
who owns and operates the city's nuclear power plant. He is the chief of Springfield's
Republican Party whose only concern is profit at the expense of his employees,
the community and the environment. |
|
Krusty the Clown |
is an overweight, Jewish comedian full of vices and cynicism who ironically stars
in a children's entertainment TV show. One could argue the character is anti-Semitic. |
|
Police Chief Wiggum |
also voiced by Azaria is a white male depicted as lazy, obese and clueless
who regularly mishandles his firearm and, of course, has a fondness for donuts.
He is also corrupt. Azaria doesn't seem to care if police chiefs are offended
by this stereotype.
|
|
Comic Book Guy |
also voiced by Azaria is the geeky proprietor of Springfield's local comic
bookstore. He is a white male depicted as morbidly obese, surly and sarcastic.
|
|
Cletus |
Cletus Del Roy Montfort Bigglesworth Spuckler, aka Cletus the Slack-Jawed Yokel,
is also voiced by Azaria. He is Springfield's local hillbilly usually shown with
misaligned teeth, wearing a white wife-beater and sporting a snake tatoo who also
has multiple children. Cletus is arguably the Simpsons most egregious stereotype,
but apparently, Azaria has no problem
with it.
