U.S. Federal Debt
March 2025
- According to usdebtclock.org,
as of March 2, 2025, our current federal debt:
- is $36.5 trillion
- that's $323 thousand per tax payer
- is growing at almost $3 million per minute
- just interest on the debt now exceeds our defense budget. Say what?!?
Believe it or not, our federal debt in $100 bills would stretch
to the moon and back 74 times.1 ¡Ay, caramba!

- 1 36.5 trillion dollars * (1000000000000 / trillion) / (100 dollars / $100 bill) * (6.1 inches / $100 bill) / (12 inches/foot) / (5280 feet/mile) / (475000 miles / round trip to the moon) = 73.979 round trips

- When asked by the media about overcorrections, I've heard both men say it's likely
some mistakes will be made along the way but that they intend to promptly make
any needed corrections. I wish Trump/Musk well in their effort to get spending
and our debt under control. If they are not successful, we are in for a world of hurt.

- The chain saw Musk is having some fun with is a gift from Argentina's President
Javier Milei (right). I think he's on to something. With our crushing debt which is
growing at $3 million per minute, using a scalpel to reduce our debt would be like
the fire department showing up at our Federal Debt House Fire with squirt guns.
Good luck with that. I think Musk's chain saw should be a bulldozer. To quote
an old auto-repair commercial: "You can pay me now or pay me later."
