Chesa Boudin


CBS reported that San Francisco District Attorney Chesa Boudin was recently recalled by a vote of 60%.


• Boudin, who was elected and took office in January of 2020, ran on "Criminal Justice Reform" which included
  • eliminating cash bailouts.
  • under-prosecuting or not prosecuting some criminals
  • not trying juveniles, who committed violent crimes, as adults
    
    To the criminal justice reform crowd, bail is an attack on the poor and Blacks who commit the majority of violent crimes. To correct this social injustice, Boudin let criminals back onto the streets. Welcome to "equity."
  
  
• As a result of implementing these policies, crime skyrocketed as criminals were often back out on the streets before the paperwork for their arrests were completed. The city’s drug problem also exploded with 621 drug deaths in 2021.
  
  
• Progressives who voted for these polices were in for a rude awakening when reality set in.
  
  
  • In no time, San Francisco became one of the most dangerous cities in the nation.
    
    
  • Looting, open shoplifting, smash-and-grabs and car break-ins are commonplace. Why? There are little to no consequences. As a result, many stores, including pharmacies, have closed. Some people are leaving their vehicles open to avoid having their windows smashed. Chesa Boudin is the best friend a criminal could have.
    
        
    
    
  • Many San Franciscans reached a breaking point when Troy McAlister, who had a 25-year criminal history, used a stolen car while fleeing a burglary to hit and kill two women (Hanoko Abe, 27 and Elizabeth Platt, 60) in a crosswalk on New Year’s Eve. San Franciscans, who learned the hard way that progressive policies have real-world and sometimes catastrophic consequences, were outraged that McAlister was out on parole rather than in jail. ABC news has an interesting 2:36 video report at the top of this page. Boudin has a comment in the video attempting to shift blame away from himself. The people didn't buy it.
    
    
• Boudin said his recall is part of a "right-wing conspiracy." The problem there is, you can't find a MAGA hat in Frisco (over 85% voted Biden/Harris in 2020). No, it was democrats who voted him in that turned around and voted him out. Good riddance.
  
  
• When progressive, criminal justice reforms are too radical for the progressives in San Francisco, you know there's more to the story -- and there is.
  
  
  • Boudin's parents, David Gilbert and Kathy Boudin, were members of the radical, far-left, Weather Underground** who, among other things like bombings, were involved in a Brink's bank robbery in which three people were killed, including Officers Waverly Brown and Edward O'Grady, and Brink's security guard Peter Paige.

    Chesa's father, David Gilbert, one of several who were convicted of their murders, was paroled in November, 2021. I point out that Democrat Gov. Andrew Cuomo, as one of his final acts as governor, commuted Gilbert's 75-year sentence to time served and referred his case to the parole board. Thanks to Cuomo, Gilbert walks free. The three pictured above do not. Why democrats who consider themselves progressive are so nice to criminals, including murderers, I'll never understand.
    
    After Chesa's parents were found guilty of murder* and sent to prison for decades, he was adopted by Bill Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn who were also members of the Weather Underground**.
    
    * David Gilbert and Kathy Buidin did not pull the triggers but were involved as getaway drivers. All those involved in a crime are responsible for any negative outcomes.
    
    ** The Weather Underground was bad news and on the FBI's Domestic Terrorist Group list. Their primary objective was to overthrow the U.S. government.
    
    
  • Yes, Chesa Doubin is not guilty of the sins of his biological and adoptive parents, but I bring up their history to suggest the source of Chesa's radicalism that manifested itself in San Francisco's politics -- and the people groaned.
  
  
• After serving for only two years as District Attorney, it appears San Franciscans had enough of Boudin and his revolving door, progressive, criminal justice reform policies. With criminal elements now well-organized and deeply entrenched, it will be interesting to see if and how long it takes for quality of life to improve. It's heartbreaking to witness the city's decline. Here's an AP report on the subject.
  
  
• For sure, it will not be easy undoing the damage that has been done in such a short time. As just one example, about a dozen Walgreens have closed in S.F. over the past year. They will not magically reopen now that Boudin is gone. Think of it this way. Boudin dropped a political bomb, albeit self-inflicted by the good people of S.F. who voted him into office, but I wish them well as they correct their mistake, move forward and try to recover. At least for a while, they will have to lie in the bed they made. Hopefully, the electorate will steer clear of those who campaign on progressive policies that look good on paper -- but in reality -- spell disaster. If only they had asked me first. I could have looked into my crystal ball and told them exactly where they were headed.

This completely avoidable tragedy happened when liberal criminal justice reform policies and reality collided with a career criminal and a beautiful, young woman.

• One time, the trolleyman hit the brakes when a woman up ahead started crossing the street. He looked over at me and said: "Can't run over that." "No.", I replied. Fond memories.
