This album was recorded and mixed
using a Roland VS2480 with a set of Roland DS-90A speakers.


It's a very powerful unit that you can pick up used for a great price these days. It features 24 tracks of 24-bit audio -- perfect for a home project. I have to admit, it took me a while to get my arms around this thing, but with the help of the VS2480 forum, I was able to conquer this beast.
 

Guitars and effects


Fender F-75 Acoustic Guitar with a Barkus-Berry pickup. For a low-end acousitc, it has great feel and sound.


PRS Swamp Ash Special electric guitar


• Yamaha CO-10MII compressor
• Marshall MG series 100 HDFX amp
• I used a Tube Ultragain MIC 100 Preamp/Limiter and Turbo Overdrive OD-2 to get that nice sustain on Follow Me.


Ibanez SDGR 5-string bass
 

Keyboards and Sound Modules


A StudioLogic SL-880 Pro Controller was used to drive all the other keyboards and sound modules. The link is for the newer model SL88.


For most of the electronic keyboard sounds, a Yamaha Motif Rack XS was used. Sounds also included are clarinet, oboe, and (most of the) drums.


A Korg DW8000 was used for the electronic bells on It's Too Late For Love.


The acoustic piano on Come Back to Me and Follow Me is a Young Chang model U131. Here's a link to the newer model Y-116.


The acoustic piano on 52 Years Ago and But I'd Only Walk Away is an old Ellington upright.
 

Drums and percussion


Initially, I was determined to get a good acoustic drum sound but I eventually gave up. I found it impossible to compete with the great samples that reside on today's sound modules.


All cymbals used are Zildjian except for the splash for which I used the Motif XS module.


The snare used for the intro to Come Back To Me was a Rogers Dynasonic.


I also used a slot drum, claves, triangle, bongos and jembe.

vocals, acousitc pianos and flute were all recorded using Studio Projects B3 condenser microphones -- positively, the best condenser mic you can buy for the money.
